Culture

We create a culture of significance in everything we do. We believe in crafting a meaningful, inclusive experience that drives our talent to grow and achieve excellence, personally and professionally, inside and outside of the workplace. We offer work-life balance, lunch and learns, professional growth opportunities, social gatherings, career coaching, team retreats, service-learning opportunities, wellness opportunities, and various ways to get involved in building the culture of the Office of Advancement.

  • Personal and Professional Growth

We invest in the personal and professional growth of our talent. From our new hire onboarding program, manager toolkits, career coaching with Talent Management, lunch and learns, Breakfast with Leadership, on-campus lectures and seminars, and providing financial support for conferences and certification programs, we give our employees significant opportunities to acquire new skills, grow within their roles, network in the industry, and further their education.

  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Georgetown University’s Office of Advancement is committed to a safe, equitable, diverse, and inclusive work environment that honors the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of our colleagues and the Georgetown community. Consistent with our Jesuit values, we aim to foster a culture that accepts and cares for each individual, and we believe this is central to achieving our goals in support of Georgetown’s mission.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a top priority and critical to our success. We believe that our organization thrives when we celebrate the diversity of our talent, instill equitable recruiting, pay, and performance practices, and foster a culture that invites everyone to have a seat and voice at the table.

The landscape of our alumni and donor base will continue to change and become more diverse. We are encouraged to do things differently than we ever have before in order to achieve our campaign goals and make a significant impact in the community. In order to do this, we must continually strive to understand the people that bring different experiences and perspectives and how this influences the work that we do each day. For us, this means actively recruiting the best in class talent from all walks of life, having open, authentic, and candid conversations about DEI, coaching and guiding employees to view the workplace from a DEI lens, monitoring our performance processes to ensure we are creating an equitable platform for our employees, developing engagement and retention practices to retain our talent, holding DEI educational seminars for staff, to include leadership, remaining open and transparent, and ultimately, protecting our people.

As a part of our commitment to DEI and building an inclusive culture, we have also established a DEI Team, comprised of 23 dedicated and passionate employees that care to create safe and inclusive spaces for their peers. This team is focused on educating, advocating, empowering, and engaging the Office of Advancement to create and sustain an environment that embraces and honors a myriad cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences.

Georgetown University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer, fully dedicated to achieving a diverse faculty and staff. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply and will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity and expression, and sexual orientation), disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

  • Building the Workplace

It is essential that we provide our employees with an opportunity to build our workplace. The Office of Advancement provides numerous opportunities for employees to participate in extracurricular activities outside of their work responsibilities such the Strategic Priority Teams, employee-led working groups that serve as the voice of the organization. These teams partner with leadership and provide insight as to what employees and the larger organization need and work together to build a strategy to provide these resources to the organization.

We also have the Office of Advancement Community Board (OACB), a group of staff committed to promoting workplace fun and connectedness through service, health and wellness, professional development, and corporate social fun. From Arlington National Cemetery Wreath Laying, lunchtime yoga, water challenges, monthly happy hours, internal networking initiatives, individual team retreats, and annual Christmas Holiday parties, we encompass what it means to create a culture comprised of meaningful relationships, a commitment to service, fun, and impact.
